An Accounts Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting the finance department by managing day-to-day accounting tasks. Their responsibilities include maintaining accurate financial records, processing invoices, and handling accounts payable and receivable. They assist with bank reconciliations, preparing financial reports, and ensuring timely payments to vendors and clients. Additionally, they support the preparation of budgets, monitor expenses, and contribute to monthly and annual financial closings. The role also involves ensuring compliance with company policies and regulations while maintaining financial data confidentiality.
Key responsibilities:
1. Oversee all accounting transactions
2. Create budget forecasts
3. Ensure timely publication of financial statements
4. Manage monthly, quarterly, and annual financial closings
5. Reconcile accounts payable and receivable
6. Ensure timely payments to banks, vendors, and for purchases
7. Calculate taxes and file tax returns
8. Maintain balance sheets and profit/loss statements
9. Provide reports on the company's financial health and liquidity
10. Audit financial documents and transactions
11. Uphold financial data confidentiality and conduct database backups as needed
12. Prepare daily, monthly, and annual financial reports
13. Monitor and control costs
14. Coordinate with clients regarding outstanding payments
15. Conduct client visits for payment follow-ups
- A degree or diploma in accounting, finance, commerce, or a related field.
- Familiarity with basic accounting principles, such as bookkeeping, ledger management, and financial statements.
- Knowledge of popular accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Tally, Xero, or MS Excel) is often preferred.
- Ability to analyze and manage data with attention to detail.
- Strong numerical and problem-solving skills to handle financial data accurately.
- Good verbal and written communication skills to collaborate with colleagues, clients, and vendors.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize workload, and meet deadlines.
